But capturing the beauty and special moments in nature is not always easy. Often our images do not live up to our expectations, and the result does not reflect what we really saw. Sometimes the reason is technical, but even when we nail the focus and exposure, the image may not capture our vision due to poor photo design. This book is a creative guide to improving nature photography through creative vision and composition, so you can take the image you envisioned.Creative nature photography begins by recognizing the art elements in nature and learning to design your image around them. This guide will teach you to see line, shape, form, texture and color in nature, and how to include them in the composition of your image.. You will find out how the quality and quantity of light effects your images, and why it is important to be there when the light is right. You will learn the questions you should ask yourself before pressing the shutter to make sure your image reflects your vision. The creative concepts in this guide are relevant no matter what kind of camera you have, an SLR with all the bells and whistles, or a simple point and shoot. While this book provides some technical information and a glossary of terms useful to understanding the content, this is not a manual on how to use your camera. In the chapter “The Camera & Eye,” I explore the differences in the way the camera’s eye and the human eye see the world. Understanding your camera’s capabilities and limitations is crucial to capturing quality creative images. But, as stated, this guide is about the creative side of nature photography: While I tell you why and when you may want to change your cameras settings, I assume you know how to adjust them. I recommend that you read your camera’s manual and learn a few basics about photography before going out in the field, and at the end of this book I provide resources to get you started.I wrote this book with the beginning nature photographer in mind, but an amateur nature photographer who needs a creative boost will find this book a great refresher. Even for myself, a semi-professional nature photographer, the thought and research that went into writing this book revived my own creative juices and renewed my artistic vision in the field. The book is organized in such a way that it could be used as a review prior to going on a photo shoot, or as a reference while in the field.About the author: I have had a passion for nature since as long as I can remember. I turned that passion into a love of nature photography about 18 years ago. Nature photography is the key that opened the door to the natural world for me. In addition to photographing nature, I study it. Most of my photography is of the flora and fauna of my home state, Florida. My photography has been published in brochures and calendars by area environmental organizations, and I have written articles on various nature photography topics for magazines and newsletters. Ive also taught workshops on “The Art of Nature Photography,” at local parks and preserves, and I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist. I really love sharing my passion for nature and photography with others, and I hope this book stirs your passion for nature and helps you realize your creative potential through nature photography!
